Every season offers special delights, none more so than Autumn.

October is a hallelujah! —John Nichols

The approach of a new year promises a blank calendar, a clean slate, an occasion to hesitate and contemplate. We examine the facets of our lives under a mental jeweler’s loupe. We repeat questions we had a year ago, hoping for a better (or different) answer, and ask new ones. No two of our lists will be the same, yet all are intertwined. Like the leaves that fall in our yards, we’re part of the natural transitions that occur every day of the year.

Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It’s the transition that’s troublesome. —Isaac Asimov

Too Close To The Flame

Bee to the blossom, moth to the flame; Each to his passion; what’s in a name?
—Helen Hunt Jackson

Last Kiss of Summer

I didn’t imagine raindrops against the roof last night, but they were small kisses, and gone by mid-morning. Too Little, Too Late will be the epitaph for this summer.

Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby. —Langston Hughes

New Purse

Who can’t find a hook for a new purse? Especially when it features that distressed look. Quicker than FedEx, a stiff wind dropped this by earlier in the afternoon, no signature required. Maybe I should have ordered two?

Every woman should have a purse of her own. —Susan B. Anthony
