Window Light

I’m still mining visual nuggets from last week’s visit to Thompson’s Mills. Here, a battered, round-bottomed fire bucket hangs on a nail on the mill’s second floor, where ever- changing window light wraps around its graceful curves before falling into shadow. To emphasize these contrasts I let the wall go pure black, placing attention on the sweeping lines and texture. I briefly thought of processing the pictures to black and white, but a comparison against the color versions showed they lacked the warmth provided by the subtle hues.
