A Hint of Autumn

Instead of hint, perhaps I should say reminder—yesterday’s strong thunderstorms scattered leaves and tree branches on the ground, disrupted power, and were a wonderful-if-short act in nature’s theatre after so many boringly nice days. The myth mongers who would have you believe rain is an every day occurrence in Oregon rejoiced.

Alas, this morning puddles are retreating, and September, and summer, are forecast to resume a hot, dry pattern for two more weeks, and make their exits under sunny skies. I probably say this every year, just as autumn begins to take shape, forgetting the coming gloom of January, but for one day the steady, refreshing rain on the roof was music.
