Only eight hours now until an airport shuttle picks us up to start a very long day-into-night-into morning in Manchester, England, and then everything will be all right. On Friday we’ll walk out of the town of Ulverston onto the Cumbria Way, and finish that route ten days later in Carlisle. In between we’ll experience the splendid Lake District more closely than we did in 2008, although we’re not in the league of real fell walkers. We’ll ramble along at our own pace, happy to again feel the strong, simple magic of English footpaths.
Everywhere we go, the internet will be close by, and though I plan to mostly avoid it I do have a lowly iPod Touch and
will may post from the trail. Or pub. Or train. When I’ve returned, in mid-June, I’ll tell you more.
