When daffodils in the wild begin fading at the outset of April Kathy buys bunches of them at the store—holding onto the flowers’ bright character for as long as possible. But then they wilt, too, and as I looked at this group on the kitchen counter, a minute from being tossed into the compost pile, I saw how their beauty endures after pretty has passed.
