Daffodils This Afternoon

Our weather was sharp and sunny today when I walked to a nearby stretch of roadside kept in the manner of French countryside, one I wrote about last week. As I’d hoped, new blooms swelled the bright crowd below the fence, others will join them in the coming days, and if the weather forecast is to be believed rain will soon return to ruin the daffodils’ fresh edge.

Pluck not the wayside flower;
It is the traveler’s dower.
