Unlike most of the US, Oregon’s summer has been remarkably cool—temperatures are only now beginning to reach the 90-degree mark. The big rose bush in our garden bloomed robustly again this year, with bunches hanging over the fence like blackberries, but after a few warm days they’re fading, while crowds of daisies are coming on strong alongside crocosmia and lilies, and several varieties I can’t name offhand. Altogether we’re enjoying the exuberance of color, the natural choreography of shapes and forms, and emotion.
