Sunday Afternoon

The day before we began walking the Dales Way my wife and I took a bus out to Bolton Abbey. Summer jokes aside (“Today’s the day!”) we found large crowds enjoying the weekend weather along the River Wharfe: impromptu games, barbecues, children, dogs and ice cream seemed to be everywhere.

I enjoyed seeing all these people enjoying themselves, and I think it’s because they seemed more…civilised?…than their American counterparts. Quieter, certainly, but somehow also more…agreeable.

We were also impressed by the food offered at the pavilion: try finding edible pizza, let alone thick quiche, at American tourist spots.
