City Lights

Driving home tonight I passed several homes decorated
with colored Christmas lights. One house, dark inside,
caught my attention more than the others. It sat off the
road a ways, isolated in the blackness, and because of that
separateness its lights appeared lustrous and inviting.

Photographed from space, Earth’s City Lights resemble
those simple strands of electric bulbs, alone in the cold
darkness yet alive and promising.
